A fine love story that went on to become one of the biggest successes in the annals of Bollywood.

Lovely music, fine performances by Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit and a tight script contributed to the success of this lengthy love story released in the early 1990s by the Rajshri Group.

Two youngsters Prem (Salman Khan) and Nisha (Madhuri Dixit) meet in the days leading up to Prem's elder brother Rajesh's (Mohnish Bahl) marriage to Nisha's sister Pooja (Renuka Shahane).

Both Prem and Nisha are instantly smitten with each other.

However, before they can get married fate deals them a cruel blow. Tragedy strikes their families in the form of Rajesh's wife Pooja's death leaving behind a young child.

To Prem and Nisha's shock, their families unaware of their love for each other arrange for Nisha's marriage with her brother-in-law Rajesh. Although horrified at the unexpected turn of events, Prem and Nisha are willing to sacrifice their happiness for the sake of the happiness of their loved ones.

To a large extent, first class music made Hum Aapke Hain Koun a smashing success. The movie contains 14 songs with the legendary Lata Mangeshkar singing 12 of them. Our favorites were Aaj Hamare, Didi Tera Devar Deewana, Dhiktana Dhiktana, Pehla Pehla Pyar Hai, Saathia Sang Rahega and Jhoote Dedo Paise Lelo.

Long after Hum Aapke Hain Koun's release, songs from the movie were regularly broadcast over loudspeakers at public events in India and frequently played at parties in the U.S.

Fortunately, Hum Aapke Hain Koun spares us from those horribly crafted fighting scenes that are a staple of most Bollywood productions.

Besides winning high accolades from the audience, this family drama deservedly went on to win a host of prizes including the Filmfare, Screen Panasonic and National awards.

Hum Aapke Hain Koun was also perhaps the acme of Madhuri Dixit's career. None of her later films ever came anywhere close to the popularity of this fine drama.
