An off-beat story and a strong performance by Anil Kapoor are the highlights of this unusual movie.

Avinash (Anil Kapoor) comes to Calcutta in search of his son, who has been kidnapped by the bad guys after his wife Sanjana's (Manisha Koirala) murder.

In Calcutta, Avinash moves into a tenement where he bumps into Bulbul (Rani Mukerji), who's being evicted for failing to pay her rent. He feels sorry for her and lets her stay in his room.

However, Bulbul is actually Reema and hails from a well-off family. You see, she's writing a novel and has moved into the poor tenement to get a real feel of the place. Bulbul soon falls for him but Avinash is impervious to her charms determined as he is in trying to recover his son.

Even as Avinash is frantically searching for his son in the big city, the bad guys are desperately trying to knock him off.

A glaring flaw in Calcutta Mail is that BulBul's character has not been fully fleshed out creating a jarring dissonance. Manisha Koirala looks lovely in a brief appearance.

The music is mediocre. Yeh Saheb Ajeeb Hain is the only passable song. ... More ... Collapse
