Mohabattein offers more slamdunk evidence - as if any more was really needed - of the mediocre depths that Bollywood has sunk to.

Even the combined star power of the two top Bollywood stars Shahrukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan cannot salvage this awful love story.

Music teacher Raj Aryan Malhotra (Shahrukh Khan) joins the Gurukul college headed by disciplinarian Narayan Shankar (Amitabh Bachan). Although Narayan Shankar doesn't realize it, Raj Aryan is an old student of the Gurukul, who was expelled for having the temerity to fall in love with his only daughter Megha (Aishwarya Rai). Following Raj Aryan's explusion, a dejected Megha commits suicide.

Raj Aryan's purpose in returning to Gurukul is to demonstrate to Narayan Shankar the power of love and its superiority over the key weapon in Narayan Shankar's arsenal - fear.

This second-rate movie trends to drag on in the second half.
